Hello I’m Snug, and yes, I am a soft toy and I’m here to tell you about my life. Before ‘lockdown life was extremely dull, I only travelled from the corner of the room to the bed. Worst of all I couldn’t move by myself and even if I could I wouldn’t be able to in public. I was bored out of my fluff! Now, let me tell you about my life in ‘lockdown.’ One morning I woke up and was on the roof, sitting on a chair and holding a window washer. Behind me were two cones with caution tape between them. I was wearing a high-vis vest and amazingly I could see the whole world around me! I could see trees, people and dogs, that I'm sure if they could they would yelp, “Help I need to rest, this is my 20th walk today!” The thing that I was most confused about was that strangely, every day I saw people taking pictures of me. During my second ‘lockdown’ moment I was on a ladder and I could see the world even more clearly. I could see traffic lights and houses and all of their small details. The next day I was fishing, wearing a hat and wondering if I would get a bite. I waited but I got nothing and after a while I fell asleep. When I woke up I was holding a toy supermarket trolley. It was weird at first but it was better than what happened ten minutes later. Yes you guessed it, it was back to the corner for me. I felt sad, the best days of my life were gone and I could almost feel the dust settling already. It was night time and I couldn’t sleep and I noticed that my owner couldn’t either. Eventually he got out of bed, walked towards me, picked me up, took me back to his bed, gave me a big hug, fell asleep and then I did too. In the morning I woke up and was scared that I might be put back in the corner. I didn’t want to be alone again! I took a peek but my owner was gone. When he came back he picked me up and I was so frightened that I closed my eyes. When he finally put me down I opened my eyes and I was on a soft blanket with two lights next to me in a snuggly wardrobe. I wasn’t too big but it was perfect! From then on, every night I spent with my owner and every day I spent with my best friend Tug, hanging out and sleeping. It was the best life a toy could ever have!

Hi, I’m Mr B. Hmm.... What a nice name. Well you’re in for a treat! No, not cake or pie. A story! Yes, a true story that happened to me. You see, one day, my life changed a lot…
It was an average day, nothing special. I was living in a torn box under a human’s bed, it was kind of exciting for a while, I mean, you got to explore the boxes and sometimes find cool stuff and other toys. However it gets boring after awhile, trust me. I used to sleep and be cuddled in bed with my human, April, but a few years later she started to stop this habit. Soon she stuffed me in a dusty box. Sad, right? I adored her so much! Sigh. At Least I wasn’t alone. There were barbies, paper dolls and other teddy bears. We had all been abandoned… Winter and I were having our daily conversation. We would talk about what we found in the boxes, and sometimes have competitions to find the most bottle caps. Aaah. The good times. Now we just talk about what we imagine the universe to be like beyond these boxes. I would pretend humans are secretly aliens! Winter would imagine rumbling giants! Today we were imagining zombies. Oh! I almost forgot! I didn’t introduce Winter to you. Winter is a kind, loving bear, she has white fur like snow and her eyes are like crystals. Anyways, back to the story. We were describing how gross they (zombies) looked, their empty heads with pink slime oozing out and ripped clothing covered in dirt like they had just risen from the ground. Eugh! Disgusting! The zombies were going to conquer the world! One by one they attack more countries. Soon they planned to invade our universe. “Arrgh!” growed Winter. We collapsed with laughter. Suddenly there was a great rumbling! We were pulled in our box! The rumbling stopped and instead, a bright light hit our eyes. Our eyes! They felt like they were on fire! We heard loud voices. “Aah-ha! Found it!” Said a smoothing voice. Hmm… that sounded so familiar! “April? Oh, there you are! What are you doing?” Said a gruffy voice. April!? Me and Winter glanced at each other. “Oh. I’m just getting a teddy bear. You know, to put it in the window,” Explained April. “Ooh! I love that idea!” said the unknown voice. “Bye honey. Good luck with that!” “Thanks mum!” Her mum took off with big loud steps. April was glancing at both of us. I started to get nervous. What was happening? Suddenly something grabbed me by the waist. “I think I’ll choose… Mr B!” Announced April. I didn’t know whether to be excited that April was taking me back, or be disappointed that I was leaving my BFF, who had been there for three years of my life. Stressed, I fainted. The next thing I knew, I was on the roof! Frightened, I looked around. It was… so different. April used to take me outside to play. People were usually having daily runs, there was busy traffic and other children playing. Now it was quiet. No cars, no people. What was happening? The world was empty. Suddenly I realized I was in a chair with a blanket covering my legs. I had a notebook and a pen by my side. An idea popped into my head. Then I started writing. There, that’s my adventure. I still miss Winter, my BFF. Still on the roof though. Who knows what will happen next? Time will tell. Welp got to go! There’s a beautiful sunset. Can’t miss it! Bye! Hello, I'm marshmallow. I’ve spent most of my life in a wooden oak dresser which was cold, dark and lonely. Until one exciting day became the most wonderful experience of my life...Kate opened the creaky door of the dresser and I laid motionless hoping she’d leave soon enough. She didn't but instead of leaving me there bored out of my life she picked me up. I closed my eyes so scared for my life, worried it seemed a little bumpy on the way to the sacrifice ring. Finally she sat me down on something hard and surprisingly chilly. I carefully opened my eyes scared of what I might be about to view. I gazed in wonder at what I saw, a scorching beautiful shining ball. Although it wasn't accompanied by loud engines or laughter, barking or sirens. In fact there was no noise except faint T.V. in the distance, the wind sailing and the chirping birds flying towards tree after tree. It was as people were gone and had abandoned the city of Christchurch.... But why are the tv’s on still? That is very strange, I know that can't be the case.
At Last it was sunset and a lingering cold breeze swept across my fuzzy face as i sat daydreaming about myself as a brave adventurer traveling the Amazon rainforest. I snapped out of it soon enough as to not miss the beautiful sun, which painted the sky a dark soft purple and a fiery pink with streaks of orange and gold. The reddish pink clouds gave the sky a wonderful dreamy fairytale like view. Eventually It kind of irritated me that there wasn't more noise. I like noise, but don't get me wrong I prefer peace but life isn’t the same. I decided that I’d enjoy the quiet while I could. One day, curiously, a little girl walking passed pointed towards me with a smile and said “Mum. Mum! Look a pretty toy.’’ As more people walked passed the same scenario happened again and again and I realized I was famous. I didn't mind of course but it started to drain my excitement the more it happened. To be honest I missed my dresser and it seems that as soon I said those few words cars spilled out on the street and not one inch of my body seemed to care. I heard humming and expected a little girl to point at me instead Kate came up the ladder and picked me up. I was scared. I closed my eyes curious about what she was going to do with me… Teddys life
On a bright but cold morning I was still in Jenny, my owner's messy room. I wish I could get out of there. I wasn’t even hugged at bedtime or greeted in the mornings. I was just sitting on a shelf with loads of other teddy bears. The next morning I woke up and was on top of a roof. Later in the day a few people came and took photos and videos and some kids even pointed at me and started laughing. I had no clue what was going on and why I was on top of a roof. At night I was taken off and I was hugged for the first time for what felt like forever! “How was your day Teddy,?” asked Jenny kindly. I said nothing because I can’t talk. Soon after I was back on the shelf and the next morning I was back on the roof again. I loved it up there actually. It was amazing! On the third day on top of the roof I was so used to it. On the fourth, I was wearing a fisherman's suit. I was so comfy, however my only question was, how am I supposed to fish on top of a roof? There is no such thing as fish in the sky. On the fifth day I was in a shopping cart and was so uncomfortable! On the sixth day I was not up on the roof. “We gave you a break Teddy,” said Jenny. I actually didn’t want a break. The next day I was on top of a ladder! Ahh! I am so terrified. Later I finally got off that scary ladder. “So Teddy, how was your day”? Said Jenny. Silence, you know I’m just a bear and bears can’t talk. Jenny gave me another hug and I was back on the bear shelf. The next morning I was just sitting on the rooftop. I was dreaming about the view on that ladder. It was so beautiful. I saw people painting, building forts, having picnics and oh, people were so creative. I was so excited for tomorrow. Eventually the next morning came and I was not on top of the roof. As Jenny came in she picked me up and said “Hello mister Teddy, it’s level 2 so we’re heading for the park.” Soon life became normal but better. For many years I was trapped in a box and I had nothing to do. Finally I saw some light, it was my owner opening the toy box. He picked me up, walked to his room and put me in front of a window. My eyes started to hurt because the sun was in my face. Then my owner saved me and moved me to a shady spot, but then I was really bored. I saw people walking past and they waved at me.There were no cars on the road and people were only walking every day.
My owner moved me again but this time to the roof. What was he thinking, I almost fell off because of the wind! Then the next day I was looking out the window again. Sadly it was raining and the windows started to get foggy so I couldn't see anything. The next day I saw many people and cars. I saw my owner going to school! 6 hours later, he arrived home and I was sleeping in his bed. He picked me up and put me back in the window. I was just getting used to my place in the window again, when suddenly he picked me up and took me back to the dreaded box. I closed my eyes in fear. Back in my box, I finally opened my eyes and to my surprise it was newly decorated cosy and warm. He must love me after all! Hello I am a teddy bear called Jake and my owner is Yongbin. He gave me the name Jake because last year he had a good friend called Jake but he needed to go to another school, which made Yongbin very sad. The day Jake left the school, he and his dad bought delicious pizza for the class to eat for lunch. Then Yongbin’s mum bought a big teddy bear back home because she wanted to surprise him and make him feel happy again. When Yongbin got back home he had a sad face and then his mum gave him me, Jake.
When Yongbin got older he put me in a big box but when the covid-19 crisis started he pulled me out again. He used a string to tie me to the roof and he gave me a mask to wear. I could feel the fresh air and people passing by, it was an amazing time. When it got cold Yongbin took me back home and cleaned me.When level 2 started Yongbin took the mask off me. I’m so happy I don't live in that dusty boring box anymore! It’s been 20 years and I’m in this box. Wait a sec, I hear footsteps. I wonder why? Oh look, a bright light coming straight onto my face. Choose me please. Oh wait, it’s me, yes! Finally, it took you long enough. I wonder where I’m going? Or am I going to the dumpster. I bet I am. Oaky, it’s night time I’m going to go asleep now.
The next day I realised that I was on the top of the rooftop reading a book. I think my owner Sophie really cares about me, but why on the rooftop? Oh look, people are pointing at me. Am I famous on my first day out here? Look there’s a game happening, I wonder what they are playing. Across the road I see different families walking towards each other, and because of the two metre distance rule, I take a guess at who is going to stay on the footpath and who is going to walk on the road. In the distance I see a huge line waiting outside of the supermarket. I hear everybody talking about Covid 19, and I wondered what that meant ? On the next door rooftop I see some friends. “Hi guys!” I said to the little teddies. They waved back and I asked, “Do you know what’s going on? They shake their heads. So I sat next to the sunset and thought how peaceful it was. It was as beautiful as a raindrop falling from a flower petal. Lonely, I sat in a wardrobe thinking about my human. Bored, I got up and looked around for anything to do. I found a sketch pad and started to draw something, I created a teddy with his human. I sighed and went to sleep.
Tiredly, I woke up and my human said, “Look Mum, on my iPad it says put your teddy bears in your window or roof for people to find. We should do that with my toy gorilla.” His mum said, “ Ok, how about on the roof?” “Yeah, and can we dress it up?” Asked Alex excitedly Alex's mum said, “ If you want to do that we need to find your toy first.” Alex started to look for me. I waited happily for him to find me. “I got it!” Yelled Alex excitedly and he gave it to his mum. “Let's put it on the roof and dress it up,” says Alex. I was so happy, the thought, this has never happened to me before, went through my mind. A second later I was on the roof, looking outside. There were birds flying, dogs walking on leads and kids pointing at me. Looking at the view, I was amazingly happy. Every day I changed my clothes, and gazed at the view. It is wonderful living this life! Hello, I am Zack, the Howler monkey. I live in a dusty dark cupboard with lots of other toys. The walls are old but the shelves are new. There used to be a hole in the roof where water dripped through. A couple of days ago a man came and fixed it. Yay!
Can I tell you a secret? Toys can’t move on their own; you have to help them. One day I was hanging out on the shelf when a blinding light was released. The next thing I knew I was sitting on a metal cold thing. Somehow someone came and put road cones around me. Was I a suspect? Then I was holding a window scraper. Soon the person left. The sun started to set, it was beautiful. I was also greeted each day by the Southern Alps. It was the best day of my life. Once, I was in a box, a dark dusty box. Then, getting pulled out of my cardboard box, I had second thoughts about my life. Curiously, wondering why I was getting removed, I felt nervous, but mainly excited about what was going to happen. My owner Lily hadn’t wasted a second, next minute, I was up on the roof living my best life. Sitting there, not knowing what to do, I started wondering, wondering why Lily had made me feel so important again.
I spent my days sleeping, talking with other bears and doing the activities I was given to do. You may think my life was a dream come true, but it still wasn’t. I prefer sitting in a bedroom window because I don’t get soaked in the rain or feel sunburnt. However, I still wouldn’t swap anything for the view of the sunset I have from the roof in my new situation. I still felt curious, why was the world so quiet? Was it really like this? Will my life still stay peaceful? After all, I hadn’t seen the real world in about 15 years. If the world continues like this, I wouldn’t mind at all, because I still get some fame from the people who take pictures of me. Well, at least I’m not stuck in a box anymore, I am loved! Tiredly I wake up, it’s still pitch black as normal. I say hi to all my bear friends. I try to move, like I have ever since I was stuffed in this box. Finally, I manage to move into a more comfortable position. I was just about to go into what felt like hibernation even though because of the stitches on my mouth that hold it on I haven’t eaten in my lifetime so naturally it’s impossible to hibernate.
I was just about to go to sleep when a blinding light burned my eyes. I sat, still as a rock until I noticed that it was my owner Ben. Happily, He took me into the living room. “You need to go in the washing machine little man, you’re dirty.” Ben chuckled with a smile. I rolled around in that thing for what felt like days. When Ben finally took me out he then placed me in a thing called a dryer. Now that was an experience on a whole new level! Ben eventually pulled me out and brought me into his room and put some silly clothes on me. After all that Ben took me on to the roof, gave me a paint roller and said that my new job was to paint the house. So there I was, sitting on the roof, dressed in weird clothes and holding a paint roller. I sat there still as a rock so people didn’t think Ben was a wizard and arrested him. When the sun set and people weren’t watching I took the opportunity to paint the house. I’d get a good way before people were out and about and taking photos. One day, out of the corner of my eye I see some girls playing on the path with chalk and a rock. I see a dog that looks like it wants to eat me and many other scary things also get my attention. A few months and a lot of silly clothes later Ben took me back into the living room and said, “You deserve to sit in here now little buddy.” Thankfully I’m not in that box any longer I think to myself but I still wonder how my other bear friends are doing in there. Hi I’m a teddy bear named Alex and I live with a family that keeps me on a shelf. All I get to see is a tiny peek of the world fly past while gathering dust with the other toys. My family goes about their busy lives without giving me a second thought. Days, maybe even years passed without being noticed and my child, Josh, is growing up.
Suddenly, I got grabbed off the shelf and started to get played with while being dressed up in a weird outfit. Strangely, I ended up in a mysterious new place, and all of a sudden I had to adjust to a different lifestyle. I tried to make sense of what was happening. Finally, Josh visited me and told me a virus outbreak caused the world to go into lockdown. When I was on the roof I saw strange hieroglyphics on the footpath, lots of groups of people were walking avoiding each other and strange orbs were in the windows with odd red coloured objects. On the roof I saw a whole new world in front of my eyes. It was confusing seeing the changes from busy traffic to empty streets, everyone together to social distance, from shops open to shops closed. Hi my name is Ted, Ted the Teddy, and you won't believe what i just heard on my owners T.V.! We are moving to lockdown level 4. Now that my owner Lily does not have school maybe she will take me out of the closet. I can’t wait to finally be played with. Wait a minute, I hear footsteps. Lily, someone is opening the closet...
A beam of light shines on my face, oh it is just Lily's father, I wonder why he is picking me up from this dark and cold closet? As Lily's father carries me I leave behind a pile of dust. Then he gently gives me to Lily and she puts a small paint brush in my hand, a mask on my face. Finally, her mum puts a little builder’s hat on my head. She passes me back to Lily who slowly carries me up a ladder and places me onto a stool. As I look back I see two road cones with caution tape tied between them. Suddenly bright lights flashed in my face from people taking photos. I don’t mind... I think to myself…. I like being famous and there is an amazing view of kids playing and the sun rising. I love my life! I woke up from my nap expecting to open my eyes to my usual darkness, however this time things were very different. Instead, there was a blinding light coming from the opening of the closet. It finally clears and I see two strange faces staring at me. I ask, “Who are you?” and this seems to scare them. Eventually they explained that they found me. I then ask, “Is it 1923?
They looked at me confused and replied, “It's 2020.” Oh my gosh where has the time gone? I think to myself! They then say, “Oh well, we are in lockdown.” They then proceeded to tell me that I was going to be on their roof but I needed a shower first. So I entered the bathroom, they then put some soap on me and poured hot water all over me. I was tense as I hadn’t taken a shower in over 50 years! As the water trickled down my face, I asked a few questions like what has happened since 1923? They explain that we almost have world peace. “That’s good,” I say and then ask “Well who’s in charge?” “Nobody,” they say. I say “That’s nice.” The next thing they say is, “Well we are going to put you on our roof. Is that okay?” “Yes, yes definitely” I exclaimed. “Perfect! Do you want to hold anything to attract children?” “Yes I like that idea a lot. I’m very fine with holding anything you want” I answer. They then decide to give me a book. We started to climb up to the roof. Once we got there, a blinding light came upon us. When it finally cleared, everything looked very futuristic. I was amazed how much the world had evolved! I had no words to describe its development. The boys then set me up, and I got ready. I started into the distance and was so happy and excited, the children had so many smiling faces when they saw me. I was delighted and my heart instantly warmed up. The children came and went every day. After creating so much joy during these hard times, they took me inside and placed me on a comfortable shelf that I enjoyed a lot and I met a lot of special people on. I was watching TV when I was instantly snatched by my owner Bob and carried to the roof. He then shoved a mask on my face, and put a paint roller in my hand. I was placed on a chair and that's when I discovered my greatest fear, the fear of heights! I was so scared because there was no one to catch me. Wait there is no one... Everyone is in their houses, I usually see people walking around but there is no one today.
A couple of hours passed and it was starting to get dark, but I saw someone! The person looked at me and said, “Look kids it's Godzilla as a paint roller person!” Wait, someone knows my name! I'm famous! Anyway the kids laughed and kept going. I was lonely and tired so I went to sleep. Strangely when I woke up I was on a ladder! Now I’m absolutely terrified. I then realised I am stuck on the ladder, I sigh in disbelief and see my friend Chelsea in my next door neighbours window. I wave my hands, she waves back, we then start talking, and yes, we teddy bears have good ears so we can hear each other, but we still talk loudly. The people who walk by only hear squeaking noises because they don't know that's how we sound. It's 6pm and I see the sun move, it's going down! It was so soothing just watching it drift down towards the horizon. I relaxingly fell asleep. I woke up hungry, but I was in luck, I was holding a fishing rod! I reeled it in but there was nothing there. I was sad but was distracted when I noticed the same person taking pictures of me everyday. I came up with a theory! It's my biggest fan! Or a stalker, either one. I'm so famous There is even a massive crowd in front of me! Who cares about the Kardashians, I'm the most famous person in the world, “Look there, 2 people are looking at Godzilla!” Bob said.Well 2 people are a lot to me. Eventually I took a nap and when I woke up it was dark I'm so scared of the dark that I was shaking. I then hear a noise coming from the bushes. This something then jumps out and I scream, but it's just a cat. Relieved I will go to sleep again. When I wake up I'm in a chair with magazines and I'm still hungry, but luckily Bob dropped off a sandwich during the night. I sing a song while reading a magazine. While i'm singing I noticed an interesting article that read… “a teddy bear named Godzilla has been making a lot of people happy in this hard time by entertaining them on a rooftop!” Oh my gosh! I'm in the news article. I was joking about the Kardashians but now I'm actually famous! Luckily or maybe with some sadness, eventually everything was back to normal, people running, schools starting and I didn't need to sit on the cold dark roof any longer! I woke up still sitting on my owner's bed then I was picked up, “Hi Mr Snowball” Daisy said. Then she mumbled, “I will be sad not seeing you.” And began to cry. Next I was stuffed in the attic.
5 YEARS LATER….. I woke up suddenly to someone grabbing me, what's happening? I thought to myself, wait, Daisy, is that you? The last time I saw her was when she was 3, now she looks like she's 8. She then takes me to the roof and puts me on a seat. There was a builder's hat and a paint roller so I grabbed the roller and put on the hat. Luckily there was no one to see me moving! The next day Daisy put me on a windowsill and I was there for what seemed like forever. The next day Tuesday I saw people and cars and Daisy was about to go to school again! Everything seemed back to normal. Before Daisy left, she picked me up and I panicked, was she putting me back in the attic? Instead she gave me a warm hug and placed me on her bed. I knew she loved me! I looked around Lulu's room and sighed. ”What’s wrong?” Asked a dog called Pat.
“Nothing, I just wish Lulu was home,” I mumbled sadly. “That girl she’s a pain!” growled Pat. Suddenly a door slammed, Lulu came running into the room, pulled me off the bed and sprinted down the hall.” I got her Ma!” Lulu yelled loudly. “Ok,” Said an older woman. “When your dad comes home he’ll put him on the roof for lockdown.” “It’s a girl!” Lulu wailed. “Fine!” Her mother snapped. About five minutes passed, then a car pulled up the driveway and an oldish man stepped out of the car. No soft toy ever trusted him. “Papa!” Lulu cried happily. “Lulu, my tiny little girl,” He said. “Tuu,” She tutted in return. “Hi dear,” Welcomed Lulu’s mum, “Lulu wants you to put a teddy bear on the roof.” “Mum,” Lulu prompted, “She's not a teddy she's a bear” “Right, I’m sorry,” She said sarcastically. “Mum,” Huffed Lulu frustrated. Her mother sighed and exited the room quickly. “Can I have your bear? ”Asked her father. “Yes” Lulu said sadly, handing me to him. I felt like my stuffing was concrete. Lulu's dad got out a long thing with two poles pointing up, and lots of little parallel tubes allowing him to climb. I think it’s called a ladder. I woke up the next morning very cold, wondering if Lulu’s room heater was on so I twisted my head left to look. Shock shot through me like electricity, where was I? The view was amazing, little icicles were hanging from buildings and in the distance I saw the Southern Alps, snow capped and shimmering in the rising sun. My whole teddy bear life I had wanted to look around, not just staring at Lulu’s dull room. “Lulu,” I said to myself, “You brilliant little girl!” Then I felt something freezing under my paws and I saw a long steel rod hanging off the roof. I felt very confused, but then a small family with a dog noticed me and the little boy pointed at me, ”Look Mama look!” He cried. “That’s the third animal we’ve seen,” Said his mother, who was pushing the pram. From then on I was famous. Two weeks passed and lots of little kids pointed at me, while parents smiled seeing their children happy. I felt as if I was making lockdown fun for them. Being away from Lulu made me happier, no dribble for a start... my ear was still wet from last Sunday. I had also been through the washing machine more than my teddy bear’s brain can handle! Hello and welcome to my life. I know it does not seem that good. Well you’re right it’s not. Who would guess I lived in a stuffed closet. Oh by the way my name is Snowfly and I can’t believe I have not been played with in years, but it’s okay I still know that I’m loved. Oh wait, did you hear that on T.V., that they said to bring out teddies for a teddy bear hunt? Yeah I just know it, I’m finally going to have a better life! Oh here they come…
“Okay here she is Lucy, where do you want to put her?” Asked Lucy’s mum. “I would like to put her on the roof and dress her up please Mum.’’ Lucy replied. “Okay, what should we dress her up in?’’ “Oh I know we could dress her like a person that works as a house painter.’’ Lucy excitedly suggested. “Good idea. Can you find your father's old work stuff.” Lucy was so excited and went to search for the items. She finally arrives back with her dad’s old mask and two cones with a striped pole to connect to them. She also had a paint roller, a vest and a hard hat for me. They take me up to the roof and place me on a stool. Oh they think of everything, I wouldn’t get sore legs from standing. Looking around I saw people taking pictures of me and my other friends. Were we famous? In the distance I saw what I thought was a game, people were dodging each other and it looked like fun. As the day passed I watched the cars go by and people pointing at me and saying, “Oh look a teddy bear!” Eventually it started to bug me. The next morning I was back on the roof but this time I was sitting on a chair with a fishing rod in my hand and had a different hat on my head. That was good because the sun was rising quickly. Later that day people started to take pictures of me again. I was enjoying the quietness, but I guess I have to put up with it for now. I noticed children drawing with chalk so I started to guess what they were creating. Maybe a dog... no a cat... perhaps a bunny, oh it was me! It was a good picture but guess I would still rather be stuffed in a closet. On the third morning when I woke up, I was sitting on a ladder like I was rescuing a cat from a tree. Later that day, I started to wonder if I could stay balanced on this ladder and if I fell what would happen to me would I get a big cut or fall in the nearby tree. I looked down and noticed how high I was, it was higher than the roof and it started to scare me. As the sun set, my owner came and picked me up and said I was very brave to stay on the ladder for all that time. When she wasn’t looking I smiled quietly to myself. When we got inside Lilly said she had a surprise for me and she took me up to her room. I started to think that she didn’t love me anymore, but no, she didn’t put me in the closet, instead she placed me lovingly on her bed... It was early 2020 when it happened. There I was, watching my owner Jeff smash a TIE fighter and then move an undersize X-wing past, closely followed by an undersize Y-wing and an undersize Millenium Falcon, when a voice said, “Let’s put Chewbacca on the roof Jeff!” Soon, Jeff’s mum came in and picked me up!
From then, things went too quickly for me to remember. The next thing I knew, I was sitting on an oversize chair on the edge of a cliff! I clambered over the huge armrest, a fishing rod in my hand. I pulled the chair back a bit before pulling myself back up. The warmth of the sun was lovely for a few hours, but as it slowly disappeared, my thick fur started to overheat me. Eventually the sun finally set and I went out like a light. When the world reappeared, strange hieroglyphics looking very elliptical in shape had emerged on the ground. Suddenly,I felt a wet sludge hit my head. I quickly wiped it off, looked at my hand and there was some BIRD POOP! I wiped it off and looked down and froze. Two small kids with their parents were pointing at me! For the duration of my ‘cliff stay’, I would see about 100 people per day, each group avoiding other groups. They were all pointing at me and other furry objects peering at them. Birds the colour of Yoda sang beautifully from the nearby trees. Smaller black birds cheekily chirped at me, their large tails flicking out as they dodged through the air, catching insects as they flew. I thought to myself, ‘This place is lovely. How long will I stay here for?’ As I tried to look outside I was squished in the wardrobe. I was so squished in fact, that I could not breath in the stuffy air. It all started when this thing called Covid-19 interrupted life as we knew it. All the people ran like they were being chased by an elephant. Joshua, who was my owner, ran away and left me outside. 5 hours later…Covid was surrounding me and Joshua noticed me from from inside but he still left me outside and played Roblox with his dad. I was super upset that I did not have an owner anymore.
Joshua was thinking, ‘It’s getting dark and I really need to get him inside.’ So he asked his dad, “Can I get my teddy bear?” But dad said NO! with a big loud shout. Joshua was covered in tears so he went to his room and SLAMMED the door. Dad was anxious so he went to the garage and started to make a new teddy while Joshua was playing more video games. Finally dad was finished with Joshua’s new teddy. It was a teddy that had a remote control. It was humongous. Its name was Ninja-Sway-Boy. He could do a tornado kick, round hook kick, upper kick, long kick and high kick. Dad went upstairs. Joshua was lonely in his room. Dad knocked on the door and Joshua opened it and Dad said SURPRISE! Joshua’s dad took him downstairs and told him to hit the button. He pressed the automatic button and Ninja-Sway-Boy leaped into the air and did a round hook kick. Joshua was shocked and he really liked it better than me. When Joshua finally went to go and check on me I had disappeared. A day in the life before lockdown:
Yawning, I opened my eyes and stretched, wishing that my friends didn’t chatter so loud during breakfast. It would be only a matter of time until Laura would come and take me out of this dreadful shelf, or so I hoped. In the meantime, the clock ticking should keep me away from boredom. Well, it didn’t. Boop! Like a lightswitch, I was asleep again, like always. After a few minutes for me, but probably a couple hours for others, a soft tap on my cheek woke me up again. I suddenly get pulled out of my resting place, gasping for breath. Laura began tugging at my legs and arms, which I think is horrendous and is unacceptable. Even with my moans, Laura didn’t stop… The next time I had a rest, after all of that torture, is when Laura left for lunch. I quickly snuck out of the house, grabbing some berries for lunch. Racing back towards the window, I happily gnawed the berries. “Hello little teddy!” Laura yelled as she ran towards me. ‘Amazing’, I thought. There she went, tugging, swinging and dragging me across the floor. Again, my yelps didn’t help. Perhaps she was not able to hear me? I just didn’t know. ‘What is she doing now?’ I thought, listening to some horrible gibberish with music in the background. Laura suddenly pulled me up. I guess she’s asking me to dance with her. Scared, I leant back, hoping she was not able to pull me up… Finally after the disgraceful round of dancing, Laura is called for dinner. I was waiting for that moment. By the time Laura finished her dinner, it was time for bed. I breathe a sigh of relief. Snoring away, I wait for the next day… A day in the life during lockdown: As I woke up, I heard Laura hollering at her parents. Listening, I made out the words: ‘COVID-19’ and ‘lockdown’. What’s that? What have I missed out in the night? Was this something bad? I saw a glimpse of Laura’s mum. Grabbing me, she pulled me out of the shelf. I was pulled through the hallway, and stationed on the roof. I finally saw the outside world. Giant metal balls with wheels on the bottom were bumping along the road, these strange hieroglyphics were on the sidewalks, and fences changed colours right in front of my eyes. Suddenly, I was dressed in a tweed suit and a flowery hat. Then, an extremely boring book is shoved in my eyes. Sad, I watch the strange happenings below me... Click, click! A flashing light caught my attention. Is this alien… taking a photo… of me? I didn’t know I was famous. After a solid half hour, the sky began to dim, and I got taken inside. Time to wait for the next day... “It's so dark in this square box!” Moaned Fuzzy, a toy cat.
“Stop moaning ,we have been in this box for a long time and we all can't remember what our owner, Rob, looks like or his room!” Grizzly, a brown bear who has a brother called Ted, replied. “Rob placed us in this box after his mother bought him a computer”, I added. I heard chatting, I heard my name! Is Rob going to take me out? I wondered excitedly. Suddenly a light of hope slowly shone into the box. A hand that looked familiar grabbed my tail, it's Rob! Wait, why would he grab my tail instead of cuddling me like he did before that computer came I thought. Rob took me outside, threw me to his dad then ran off. Rob's dad, Ron, climbed up the ladder where I was tied to a rope. I didn't know why but I think it's better than being grabbed by the tail. I was put on a white chair holding something that I've never seen before, I wore masks, clothes and hats and there were two cones behind me. After the first night Ron tied me to a ladder. Too high... I whispered. After another night, Ron placed a chair on the roof and I was placed on it. I was also holding a fishing rod. On the fourth day, I was already tired of only seeing empty roads, cars, birds, people, dogs, cats and bugs. Then I saw a group of children holding strange things from a box. They were using those strange things to draw pictures. The boxes had a word spelt like this , C-h-a-l-k. Wow I thought, one of the children drew me and Ron’s house! Some drew trees, animals, cars, games and they even drew cartoon characters! When the Covid 19 Lockdown days were over, my days outside on the rooftop were over too. I was in a box under the bed for a very long time until I saw the light when owner Kevin put me on the bed for a minute. Then he came back, put some new clothes on me and placed me on a chair to eat dinner. When the sun went down, I sat on the roof to watch the sunset, but Kevin put me back under the bed before the moon came out.
In the morning, I sat back on the roof with my clothes on. I saw the children drawing on the path, birds singing and butterflies dancing in the sky. I looked at the people that took photos and said, “Hi!” To keep busy, today I found teddys in the other windows and counted how many people and dogs were walking on the road. Some people and children were pointing and talking about me, maybe they think I looked pretty. When the sun went down I felt tired from sitting on the roof. Finally, Kevin picked me up and put me back, but this time I didn’t sleep under the bed I slept on the bed with him. When I woke up I felt not even a little bit tired. When Kevin put me back on the roof I felt more excited than ever. Then after another few days I was fishing on the roof. Even though I didn’t catch any fish it was fun! From them on I woke in the morning excited and happy for each day to begin! Hello I am Aathirra and I have a typical spaced out life, just relaxing at the bottom of the toy box looking up at the other dusty old things. I desperately need to come up from lying in this place because it bores me. I try to do something new and exciting but decide it’s better to stay safe rather than being caught by Lexi, my owner. Instead,I slide carefully through the rough, sharp and rugged old things that could hurt me. Once I get down to safety I sit there for the rest of the day staring up at the old disgusting ceiling. LexI never likes to clean her bedroom and neither does her brother.
Sometime later… One fine morning I wake up to a blinding light hitting me and while my eyes adjusted I realise that I’m not in my normal dark dusty spot. Instead, I’m all dressed up, (by LexI I’m guessing) and have put up on a ‘roofie thingy’ holding a weird rolling thing. All eyes are on me and I hate having all the attention, with flashes and non adjustable light twitching in my eyes. I hear click click and kids yelling, “Mum! Mum!” constantly. It bugs me, but I know that they will be horrified if I run away so I stare all around trying to find something to control my boredom. Finally I fall asleep and time passes quickly. I wake up with a flinging flash in my eyes and I question myself about if I will have to stay up here for the rest of my life? If I do at least I wouldn’t have to get injuries inside of the toy box that I’m used to every day. Throughout the week this continues to happen, I am in many different outfits and exploring crazy exotic places.I t made me think perhaps the toy box isn’t so bad after all! |
